I just built a K24A2 for a Miata Race Car that had a Factory K24A2 prior. The build specs are below.
I had this new build dyno tuned and it performed pretty well.
At the road course it runs like a beast but in one part of the track it has an issue.
I brake into a hard right hander, come out on throttle for a brief second, lift into a left hander up hill, then light throttle quickly 0% throttle then back on quickly to 100%.
When I get back on quickly to 100% the engine "falls on its face" and the rpms drop instead of increase.
I can pump the throttle, lift to 0% and get back on, stay steady throttle. Nothing works.
The TPS sensor input is working during this time.
But for about a second the engine just does not respond. Then after that it picks up very abruptly and aggressively! Not smooth!
This happens at almost exactly if not exactly the RPM where the VTEC Window Lower Boundary is set. I am no pro and dont know if this could be the cause. But it certainly seems suspect to me.
I have attached a log that certainly has the issues many time. But it is hard to pinpoint exactly where for me because I don't really know what to look for. And I cant tie the logs to video to see when the issue happens.
I have also attached my calibration file.

Re: Built K24A2 Miata Swap
There may not be enough oil pressure for VTEC.
Re: Built K24A2 Miata Swap
Spunkster I was thinking the same thing but I cant come up with a good way to test that or better yet resolve that if it is actually the issue.
Do you have a way to test and confirm thats the issue?
What do you think the best way would be to fix this, again if it is the actual issue?

Re: Built K24A2 Miata Swap
I have seen racers run an external oil feed to the head to give more oil to the cylinder head. You may also need a baffled oil pan.
Re: Built K24A2 Miata Swap
Spunkster I will look into adding oil to the head. I already have a good baffled oil pan.
The issue has kind of changed and made me notice something else. When the issue happens the RPM changes erratically.
Like so erratically its almost impossible that the rpm could be changing that much that quickly.
I have attached a log here. I felt the issue twice.
Once a little bit around 1:37 mark
And the other time more severe around 2:02 mark
I go on brake hard to slow speed then get hard on throttle. Starts to accelerate then bucks a little and doesnt want to accelerate.
You can see the rpm changes 500-1000 rpm back and forth in less than .100 of a second, nearly impossible.
Cam angle also is erratic.
A/F ratio is also pretty crazy.
Im no tuner so I dont really know what else to look at but the log is attached here.
Any other ideas after seeing this crazy rpm fluctuation?
Thanks!

Re: Built K24A2 Miata Swap
Anyone got anymore ideas for me?
So far everything Ive tried just isn't working...
