P0344 under high load. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Post by Sp33dyG219 »

HI Guys!

This is a homologated rally car with a JDM K20A engine from a CL7. It is powerful and fast, but after 10–20 minutes of continuous full-throttle/high-load driving, it throws a P0344 fault code and the ECU goes into limp mode.

After restarting the engine, everything works normally again, but after one or two runs up to 8,000 RPM, the fault comes back. Then, if the engine cools down completely — usually after about a day — it will run for another 10–20 minutes before the fault returns.

We made a log during driving, which I have attached. It clearly shows that at the exact moment the engine is hot and running at high RPM, the intake-side CAM signal suddenly drops to zero.

I checked the CAM sensor and found that it was not an OEM sensor. The connector was also positioned facing upwards(Denso). I replaced the sensor with an OEM one, but unfortunately there was no change — the fault still occurs in exactly the same way.

My next step is to cut off the original CAM connector and splice/solder a used connector (pigtail) in its place.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I would really appreciate any suggestions or ideas. I also have several log files from when the fault occurs.

Thanks in advance for your support!

The only error I see in these datalogs is daughter board communication error, which means there is low battery voltage when cranking.
