O2 Sensor/Lambda Wide band

I was wondering if there are any benefits to or if it is even possible/necessary to run with both an O2 sensor and a lambda sensor. My exhaust has 2 bungs already welded into place and I have a P72 ECU with S300 installed...?

when tuning you need a wideband to make your corrections. you can not have the 02 sensor on (closed loop) while tuning. After you have made your corrections to A/F then you can turn your 02 back on and adjust some of your short and long fuel trims.

It won't hurt having them both installed and having the lambda sensor hooked up to the s300?

I guess I'm asking if the sensors will conflict with each other while operating normally, does one get disabled?

you can install both yes. but only 1 will run at once. you need to have the wideband while you tune. after tuning you can turn the stock 02 back on if you wish. your wideband does not calibrate the tune for you, you have to tune it manually. but its also there so you can see the gauge while driving to make sure there is no problems.

Another question on this... if I just have the lambda wideband installed will it act as the stock O2 sensor in closed loop?

It depends what your set-up is...
What WB unit are u using?
Does it have facilities to simulate a narrowband signal?
If it does,can it output both WB & NB signals at the same time?
How do u have the WB unit connected to the ECU?
Do u have a single connection onto the D14 input pin, or,do u have 2 seperate inputs to the ECU from the WB unit with one of them being to the D14 pin?
Do u want to run closed loop & be able to datalog WB info at the same time?

It has the 0-5V output and I was going to wire it to the B6 pin on my P72.
So its probably best just to leave the stock O2 sensor for when in closed loop and use the WB sensor just for tuning? I have two bung ports on my exhaust.

With 2 bungs available & a single output WB unit such as the AEM,than yes that is probably your best solution.
The AEM will simulate NB signals,but it is a manual affair to make it happen & u would have to deal with swapping inputs or setting up a switched input or similar.
I have a suspicion that the AEM gauge also reverts to N readings once u switch the signal anyway,so yeah....just stick with the double bunger set-up.....
Im not sure whether your P72 has B6 circuitry or not,i know that my jdmP72 dont,but i guess u will find out....

Yeah I inspected my USDM P72 and it doesn't look like it has R2 and R3 but Im not sure if it has 1N4148 diodes... i know its setup for boost control, I have a boost control solenoid that it came with... Does anyone know for sure if the P72 will allow for the B6 input?

If it does not have the resistors, then it should work.
