Are there limitations to the CANBoost controller?

Post by Water »

How dependent on the stock ecu is a CANBoost controller?
Does it FULLY DEPEND on the ecu gear report signal to function properly or are there other parameters that can influence boost level (like VSS) I’m wondering if it’s worth purchasing for me.

Please read and consider the information below before answering
Some background info:

I’m running Mfactory 1-4 with a 4.38 final drive.
That being said, I’ve also hooked up a custom pwm signal modifier with great success to alter the ecu and cluster speed. It’s not a Dakota Digital Box but I’m 90% sure my controller works the exact same way minus the gps stuff.

I’m wondering how CANBoost works for the ecu side of things. I’d like an electronic boost controller but I need to know if this is the proper route to take.

The main issue I have is that since the ecu sees a specific speed that does NOT match the intended RPM, it outputs to the dash correctly, but it thinks it’s a gear higher than it actually is. So the ecu never reports first gear, it’s always seeing second gear and +1 each time I shift, of course 6th is 6th, but so is 5th.

Therefore, cruise control only works above 76 MPH. Before the 4.38, everything was fine with just the Mfactory gearset, the factory 4.7, and my speed controller. Have I hit out of bound parameters on the stock ecu? This is why I’m questioning if CANBoost is right for me.

I really only did the final drive swap because I needed a bit more torque reduction as I had a useless first gear and had to shift constantly. Now it’s tame, enjoyable, arguable faster and gets better mpg as I cruise at 80 mph at 3k rpms.

Please advise.
If this is not right for me, what are the chances that an update comes out that gives the option for boost by speed instead of boost by gear? Just throwing it out there, I think I have my answer but I don’t (possibly yet) own a CANBoost controller.

It is just acting as an output for controlling the boost and depends on all ECU parameters and signals.

Right but how does it work? Do you select the specific parameters or are they predetermined parameters that all get taken into consideration?

Thanks
