Ariel atom k100 k20 supercharged.

Post by Leon525 »

My Ariel atom seems to be going into limp mode 4krpm limiter. I basically want to be able to see error codes but Ariel didn’t give the early atoms obd ports.

It’s a 37820 prc ecu with a k100 piggy back.

I want to know if it’s possible to wire in a obd port so I can see errors.

Kind regards.

I would recommend that you contact Arial about this possibility.

Ariel say it can be done. Just Ariel is very far from me.

Normal OBD is not difficult. The OBD plug pInout would be:

The Honda ECU has a ISO K-line data signal on connector E pin 23. Wire that to pin 7 on an OBD plug.

Then add a ground to pins 4+5 on the OBD plug and a battery 12V (fused!) on pin 16. That should make most OBD scanners power up and be happy to read the data.

K-line is only 11 kbps or so for sensor data and as such it can be slow and only sample a few sensors at a time for a decent resolution.

BTW.. If it happens under various, seemingly random conditions and depending on how the ECU is mounted, this may also be triggered by the K100 board rattling loose of it's contacts on the ECU mainboard. Esp. on installs where the ECU is rigid mounted to a chassis and exposed to a lot of vibration and impacts.

Cleaning the contacts and refitting it and perhaps adding some rubber mounts for the ECU (it's case is not grounded, so no continuity needed there) may help in the long run.

Bye, Arno.

Thank you that was very helpful. Why they didn’t install one from the factory I will never know.

Which one of the 3 is plug E. Sorry newbie here. Also looking at the plug ecu side do you count left to right along rows.
