Need new ECU, steps forward for tuning

Post by particle0404 »

My ECU randomly dropped out on me two weeks ago when driving. My RPMS dropped to 0, engine off, lights on dash, no DTC's because no connection to ECU. I got it diagnosed from a reputable shop and they informed me that I need a new ECU. They told me that they can't do Honda ECU's but that they would gladly put one in that was already paired to my VIN.

Obviously, the problem now is how would I get my ECU returned to stock to pair to the new ECU if there is no connection. Is it locked via VIN? Locked via part number? SKU? What even is it? I would like to assume that Hondata is just reading the VIN to verify, but I am without knowledge in this matter. I've read some other forums on this but they seemed to point to the ECU being in recovery mode. This has no connection through the OBD2 to ECU, whatsoever. No scanner can pick it up, not even a $3k scanner.

I was just curious what the steps forward might be. I'm juggling with four things: Old ECU, new ECU, sending ECU to Hondata, or sending ECU to Honda (to get immobilized). I would appreciate anyone's personal experience or professional help!

No not replace anything yet.

With everything plugged in and the ignition in the on position, go to the Help menu and click on “send feedback”. Include a detailed description of the issue.
