Having weird warm start issues with high E content, and Warm up fuel axes question

Post by jeffx »

Over the winter I had some strange cold start issues with a high ethanol content (>70%). I managed to sort those out for the most part by adjusting the Ethanol fuel adjustment (ECT) and (number of injections) tables.

Now in the hot summer where we're seeing ambient temps in the mid to upper 80s and sometimes 90 degree ranges, I've had some intermittent issues.

If the car has sat overnight and fully cooled (lets say the ECT and IATs are all around 70-75F), it will start up and run just fine.

But if I start the car in the morning and drive around, then park, and let it cool partway, I have had some strange issues where it fires up quickly but then will sputter until I jab the throttle a bunch and get it going or it will fire, and then just die. Eventually I can get it going again but it's not what I consider ideal.

I have done some testing and tried to control the ECTs and IATs as much as possible and I have determined that I can pretty much eliminate this summer situation by adding more fuel in in the (number of injections) table but I'm guessing that's going to screw everything up when we get colder weather in the winter. Is it possible to have an ECT based (number of injections) table? or should I be playing around with the Warm up fuel tables in the main Fuel section. My concern there is at lower E concentrations I may screw up the cold starts.

While I'm posting this, I've had this question for a long time. I know that on the Warm Up Fuel tables the 2 axes are ECT. One is for the ECT at the time of start, and the other axis tracks the actual current ECT (as the engine warms up). So during a cold start it will follow the trim values down a single row or a single column. The problem is, I don't know which it is because it's not labeled on the table. Can you confirm which axis is which? Or put tracers on that table so we can see what's going on in the logfiles?

By the way, for context, I am running the Hondata Fuel System Plus (with the fuel lobe camshaft) and Hondata 2000cc injectors with a Sirimoto flex fuel system.

I have not had these issues in the past with the 1330cc or 1530cc Hondata injectors but I also almost never ran much more than e60 on those injectors.
