Is it safe to leave the usb cord attached to the ecu for an easy connection when needed???

Yes. It does slightly increase the amount of RF radiated into the ECU, but normally this is not a problem.

I almost always have my usb cable plugged in. If it's not hanging down in the passenger floor board, it's wrapped up and tucked away, still attached to the ecu.
A word of advice: Stomping on the cable that is plugged into the ecu and breaking the usb connector off on the inside is probably not covered under under any warranty so you would be wise to wrap it up and tuck it away if you have passengers.

Mine is attached and routed through the glove compartment. The cable stays neat and out of the way. I roll it up when I'm not using it and keep it in the compartment.

I keep mine plugged into the ECU and running just under the center console to my E-Brake where I keep the other end tucked in there. No chance of anyone stomping on it and i don't have to reach into my glove box to connect it either.
